Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay says future of QB Peyton Manning to be decided yet– NFL News
Indianapolis Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, said on Sunday, January 29 2012, that no decision has been made on the future of their quarterback, Peyton Manning.
He reacted to an earlier published report that Colts management had decided to move on from Manning, whose recovery from a neck injury and return to play football next season has been making the headlines almost on daily basis, very recently.
Irsay categorically denied those reports, saying that Peyton Manning "hasn't been released nor was a decision reached weeks ago."
Some sections of media had quoted anonymous sources closer to the team management claiming that they had decided to let Manning free agency, with nothing such as the payment of $28 million in bonus to the player on their agenda anymore.
The owner in the meantime has denied those reports and claimed on his tweeter account that Manning was still at the Indianapolis Colts and they had to discuss the issue yet.
His statement had come following to his earlier assurance to team’s fans, who apparently were irked by the latest strife in the relationship between the team and player, that the final decision on the future of Peyton Manning with Colts would be down to
his health.
He did not touch the subject of planned meeting with the player. He, a couple of weeks ago, had indicated to meet Manning within a week to decide their future courses.
The proposed meeting has not taken place yet, and the apparent silence from the owner had led to some frustrating comments from the player, who said to be not pleased with the unhealthy environment at Colts, prevalent since sacking of their all former managers
and coaching staff.
The player’s disappointment was also in line with the uncertainty around his future at Colts. Despite that Manning has repetitively expressed his ambitions of returning to rejoin his team on recovery from his neck surgery; Irsay has neither welcomed his
statements nor dejected them.
This prompted the player to go public with rather aggressive comments to receive an equally befitting reply from his employer.
Both sides later realized the negative outfall of the hype, which was built by the media as some sort of controversy and strife in their relationship, and came with a joint statement dispelling what they called ‘misperception’.
The issue is not settled following their collective assurance of enjoying good ties between them, and as of the latest, some reports indicated that Colts were not interested in Manning anymore. A decision to the effect of relieving the player from his contract
at the Indianapolis Colts had been taken a week, they claimed.
The owner denied all the reports, saying Peyton Manning was still at Colts and nothing has been decided about his future with or without them.
