Indianapolis Colts’ owner Jim Irsay says he and QB Peyton Manning are on good terms – NFL News
Indianapolis Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, has reiterated his earlier stance of enjoying a good relationship with the quarterback (QB), Peyton Manning, and ignored the media’s finger-pointing at increasing frustration of Colts and Manning’s fans, who are keen
to know about the future prospects of the player at the Indianapolis.
The city, which hosted the National Football League (NFL) championship, Super Bowl, game, recently, refreshed Peyton-related memories of Manning family followers and their wish of seeing the QB to be back with the Colts, and their disappointment over the
strain in his ties with Irsay.
Irsay, who has assumed the leading role in all the post-season cleansing and overhauling of his team, has come under fire from far and wide circles over his lethargic approach towards resolving of Peyton Manning’s future.
He insists that he is still committed to the future of the player.
"Peyton Manning, Jim Irsay and the entire Colts family remain close and unified as we continue to work through all the options that relate to his future with the Colts," Irsay said.
The owner’s statement had come following a party, at which Peyton and Irsay are with NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell, and in happy and cheering mood. Irsay’s statement also included the picture of the player and the officials at the party, apparently as
a proof of no prevalent tension between the two.
It had followed an earlier opinion of the Peyton’s doctor that had all cleared the player to play football again.
A similar view had been echoed by the player’s agent, Tom Condon.
"He is sound. He can take a hit. He can certainly play in a football game," Condon said. "How effective will he be? Probably not as effective as he would be in two to three months."
Irsay did not confront those statements directly, except for insisting that the QB has not cleared the tests within the team.
"Peyton has not passed our physical nor has he been cleared to play for the Indianapolis Colts," he tweeted.
Irsay is one of few football officials who are online on the tweeter most of the time and he has often used his tweets to clear situation and controversies around any issues related to his teams as and when he becomes aware of them.
He again was quick to respond to Manning’s doctor view on the player’s health and fitness, pointing out at the necessity of in-team fitness tests and hurdles.
Despite that Irsay has repeatedly assured the media and fans that his ties with the QB were not strained in view of the lingering question on the chances of his recovery and return, the promptness that the owner has showed in his statements give an impression
of the situation being otherwise.
Some of the reports have relied on this factor and many others to make their case that indeed there are hard feelings between the two parties.
