Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay speaks of his frustration over media spat around Peyton Manning – NFL News
Indianapolis Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, has expressed his frustration over too much discussion around the possible future of their quarterback (QB), Peyton Manning, at Colts and given up to say nothing more about it.
To enlighten himself from the burden of questions from media, Irsay said that he would not throw a light on Peyton Manning’s return to Colts anymore, and joked that journalists should focus on the next US presidential candidate’s prospects of becoming head
of the states.
"When I was asked about Peyton, I was going to say why don't you ask Mitch (Daniels) about his presidential run? Any comments Mitch?" Irsay said.
His remarks may fit well into the context of his labelling of Manning a ‘politician’ a week ago. The owner has apparently faked to throwing of the ball into the court of a real politician to distract media from the issue without much success.
He, however, remained persistent:
"I'm not talking about Peyton this week," Irsay said as about a dozen of reporters followed him. "When Peyton and I talked (last week), we both thought the focus should be on the Super Bowl. We want to focus on the Super Bowl."
The recovery of Peyton from his neck injury and his chances of playing for Colts is making headlines in a regular frequency since over past week and Irsay has been made the main target by the media that wanted to know his final choice about Manning’s future
with the team.
Irsay has attempted to calm down the situation, which after having many twists and turns, developed into a sort of controversy, reflecting on the increasingly deteriorating relationship between Manning and his employer.
To a number of questions he replied that determination of the player’s future with or without Colts would be down to his health and that he did not want to make any such move that could have some negative effects in his life in the longer run.
The pressure on the owner has intensified due to an atmosphere of uncertainty and disappointment around the issue as a result of recent rash of changes that Irsay has introduced to what he says rebuild his side.
In the massive cleansing drive, he has fired all his managers and coaching staff, including the head coach, and there is a sense of concern among commentators and a fear among Colts’ fans that Manning might face the same fate.
All attempts by the team management, which included a joint statement by them involving the player himself, has not cooled down the fans, and they are consistently coming harder on Irsay to come out with his final choice about the player.
It has become a rather important issue for the fans given that a couple of reports recently have indicated that Irsay along with his new managers and head coach has made his decision about Manning a couple of weeks ago. The reported decision is to move beyond
Manning’s era.
Irsay has denied these reports claiming that the player was still a Colts. Again, it has not led the situation anywhere and apparently being frustrated by the continuous debate in the media and football circles he has decided to keep a mum over it.
