Indianapolis Colts ponder over post-Manning era options – NFL News
Indianapolis Colts have started pondering about the post Peyton Manning era with possibility of bringing in his replacement.
However, a final decision to the move is expected to come in the April next year, since till then the Colts are said to be committed to the injured Manning, while rules also prohibit them from disclosing their options. The issue
has reportedly been discussed with Manning himself and he is said to have approved of it.
Peyton Manning is out of the current season due to the neck injury. He was injured on the September 8 and since then has not played a single game or practice, and is expected not to do so in the remaining current season of the
American football premier league, the National Football League (NFL) 2011.
Colts’ Vice Chairman Bill Polian has said that he had already discussed the issue with the Manning and apparently has got the backing to it, however, he did not divulge on the options i.e. disclosing the names of the potential
players.
"The bottom line is that if the right person is there, and it has to be the right person, then now is the time to make that choice," Polian said on his weekly radio show. "Peyton and I have spoken about that, and he's OK with that."
Moreover, Polian also refused a request from local journalists for interview on the matter, saying nothing was to be discussed about the matter before the April next year.
"I'm around the country scouting this week, and I will ironically finish up at Stanford, but it has nothing to do with any choice we've made. That's just how it worked out," Polian said. "We won't make it (a decision) until April."
Manning has not played or practiced since his neck surgery on September 8. He had damaged a nerve in the neck, and this was third procedure on his neck in last one year and half. He is yet to recover since then and so far his return
in the current season looks almost impossible.
Earlier he had told media that he was still in wait for the fusion to heel and regeneration of the nerve after the surgery.
Without Peyton Manning, Indianapolis have gone down drastically. They are lagging behind at 0-10, being the only team to be winless in the current season of AFC in their division. Manning had enabled the Indianapolis Colts to record
115 regular season games in the seasons from 2000 to 2009. They had won two AFCs and a Super Bowl with him.
Manning had signed a five-year deal worth $90 million with Colts in July this year. He is due a $28 million bonus however the Club has the right to withdraw from the deal after end of the current season.
