Indianapolis Colts postseason reshuffling cost vice chairman Bill Polian his job – NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts have started all the shake-up of the side amid their vows of the season 2011 that ended for them with only two wins on the points table.
It is their vice chairman Bill Polian who has become the first causality in the postseason reshuffling drive launched by the Colts owner Jim Irsay on Monday.
"I felt that it was time for a change, that there was a need for a change," Irsay said Monday. "Bill had entered a role where he was less involved, but still quite a bit involved because of the lockout and Peyton's injury and the losing streak. He was around
a lot more than he probably anticipated or I did. But it really was a question about both situations. I thought that it was time to change the personnel department on the football side of things that wasn't involved with the coaching."
No comments were made by either the owner or the outgoing chairman except for that Polian thanked the fans and all those who supported him during his stay at the Colts.
Apparently there is no confirmation of reasons behind Polian’s departure but the change was inevitable keeping in view the performance that the Colts have given in the regular season of the National Football League (NFL) 2011.
The Colts played total 16 games in the season that stretched over 17 weeks but could only secured two wins to their credit. Their first win for them came in the 14th game.
One of the issues that the side had been confronting with was of Peyton Manning’s injury and controversy surrounding his chances for his return.
Bill Polian remained active on the issue commenting repeatedly in his radio shows that Manning could made it to the side during the past season.
He even went on to say that his side was weighing other options such as keeping Manning and their prospective draft signee Andrew Luck to play side by side.
Irrespective to what cost Polian his job, whether the team performance or his Peyton Manning comments, Jim Irsay defended his decision after he announced the vice chairman’s departure on Monday.
Some of the Colts players including Manning said they were stunned by the announcement. They came out appreciating the outgoing chairman for his role in the side. However, did not say much more on the issue.
Further, there are no comments from the team coach Jim Caldwell who might be next in the line if the shake-up continues.
