Indianapolis Colts pull off upset to beat AFC South champs Houston Texans – NFL Recap
The Indianapolis Colts have managed to pull off an upset on Thursday night by beating the American Football Conference (AFC) south champions the Houston Texans with final score at 19-16.
The win came with just 19 seconds to go before the final whistle of the game. It was helped by a one yard touchdown pass held by Reggie Wayne from the quarterback Dan Orlovsky.
"Reggie certainly had a spectacular game. Caught it well, was active in the running, just all around a terrific game," Colts coach Jim Caldwell said.
It was the only lead of the match scored by the Colts over the Texans. It proved enough to finish the game off on winning note for the poorly Indianapolis Colts.
On the contrary, the division champs the Texans who had maintained the lead over the Colts throughout the game seemed to be contented to have settled for two field goals from the red-zone. They failed to convert their third but
were lucky enough to get another chance in the third quarter.
It may be an overall poor showdown by the Houston Texans who are going into playoff for the first time in their franchise history, but the Colts always had the home ground advantage in their favour. The win has helped them maintain
their home-game winning record against the Texans 100 per cent. They have beaten the Texans in all tens game played in the Indianapolis to keep the score at 10-0.
The win has helped the Indianapolis Colts extend their winning streak to consecutive two games. They had gone down to the league’s score of 0-13 earlier in the season. Now they are at 2-13 with one more game to go before end of
this National Football League (NFL) regular season.
"All in all, it was a great team win," Caldwell said. "When the offense needed a drive, we got it. When we needed a field goal we got it. When we needed a stop we got it."
Inspite of having become closer to their 11th win the Houston Texans were seen not well ready to make extra efforts and improve their wins records.
One of the problems that the side is confronted with seriously is the number of its players with injuries. They were without their four key players including the wide receiver Andre Johnson in their Colts game.
Despite that the team had catered well to its injuries problem in the games before last two games, winning seven straight, the injuries have finally started taking their toll on it.
The uncertainty surrounding recovery of their wide receiver Andre Johnson from a hamstring injury does not bode well for them. It might affect their chances for wins in the playoff.
The Indianapolis Colts on the other hand are less affected by the probability of their loss in the final game. They have already missed out on the opportunity for a division title and playoff berth.
