Indianapolis Colts raise money for leukaemia research to honour ill coach Chuck Pagano – NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts have raised money for leukaemia research to honour their ill coach Chuck Pagano who has recently been diagnosed with the disease and at present is under treatment.
A week after all members of the organisation, particularly all players, shaved their heads to throw their support behind the official, the team including coaches and officials from the front office have raised about $10,000 to donate to a charity for research
on leukaemia and lymphoma.
The money was raised through auctions of football gears and other stuff donated by almost the entire National Football League (NFL) to show sign of support to the ill coach.
The auction was organised by Sean Sullivan and his wife, who is an equipment manager with the Colts.
Overall, the successful effort was contributed wholeheartedly by replacement coach Bruce Arians, young quarterback Andrew Luck and some other players and officials like.
Arians who himself is a survivor of prostate cancer said the Colts are like a family and that they will fight to see the coach through to win the battle against the disease.
He said:
''This is about family, and so many families are affected by this disease that everything we can do to fight it, we will.''
Meanwhile, the teams which Chuck has served as a coach or in another capacity i.e. the Baltimore Ravens, have donated many things for the auction.
It is rather unfortunate that the coach has been diagnosed with the cancer at a juncture when his team is playing brilliantly in the season. Courtesy of their recent successive wins the Colts have strongly emerged as playoff contenders.
Arians who has been promoted from offensive coordinator to accept full coaching role on a temporary basis has done rather well to guide his side for consecutive wins. They are at the number two position in the American Football Conference (AFC) South, just
behind the leaders the Houston Texans.
Given the Colts' other two competitors the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans are struggling on their ends and have lost quite a few successive games, the points’ margin between them and the Colts is greater. The Jags are in an impossible scenario
to catch up with the Colts with just a few more games left in the regular season.
