Indianapolis Colts rely on QB Andrew Luck for win versus Kansas City Chiefs – NFL News
All eyes are on rookie but star performer of Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck as his performance this Sunday (Dec. 23) will be crucial to the last chance for the team to progress into the playoffs through the first wildcard opportunity.
Luck has been key performer for the Colts throughout the season, but the negative side of his run is that he has been the most vulnerable on the field. He has been sacked 37 times. This includes five sacks in the Houston Texans’ game last week, alone.
Yet the Colts know they do not have an alternative, and have backed the quarterback to ride on the plus of his mobility to pull off a much-needed win this weekend.
Left guard Joe Reitz said:
"Andrew, he's always the first person to take the blame. He's always the first to say 'it's my fault' even when it's not. That's what you love about your leader and your quarterback. It really makes you want play well for him. We need to do that and we need
to pick up our game and play better and protect him."
It is pertinent to note that Luck has been a particular target of all defences he faced this season. He is lucky to have escaped possibility of a serious injury, although sacks and interceptions are there as black spot on his performance chart.
Interim coach Bruce Arians has backed Luck’s performance for the game, also emphasising that the team would need to do a better job securing the pocket.
He said:
"High throws normally are pressure when you can't step into it. So, we've got to do a better job securing our pocket."
It is not clear yet if Bruce will be supervising the weekend’s game as a coach because there are some speculations that the Colts might see Chuck Pagano, who has just recovered from Leukaemia, back on the sideline.
A win is important for the Colts to progress through to the second round of the league, irrespective of the question who is going to appear on the sidelines as coach this Sunday. It appears it will be last game for Arians as an interim head coach of the
team.
