Indianapolis Colts replace injured Ben Ijalana with Arena Football League OT Ty Nsekhe – NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts have confirmed the roster adjustment to replace injured offensive tackle Ben Ijalana, who is set to miss the entire 2012 season with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
Ben has been placed on the waived-injured list following the confirmation of the ACL injury he suffered during a workout activity at the team’s ongoing training camp.
The second-round selection off the 2011 National Football League (NFL) draft, Ben, also had a couple surgeries on his hip and looked definitely out of the game this year at least.
Chuck Pagano – the first-year head coach with the Colts - confirmed the OT’s injury, saying there was no chance of his return to action this season. Next day the management put him on the waivers.
In order to fill the empty slot, the Colts are reported to have signed unrestricted free agent OT Ty NseKhe. The player has played three seasons in the Arena Football League with three different teams.
None of the stakeholders have disclosed terms of the deal. This includes the value and tenure of the contract that the player has received from the team. It nevertheless paves the way for the player to join the NFL.
Meanwhile, the Colts have not confirmed if they have found a replacement for linebacker A.J. Edds who is also to miss the entire this season with an ACL injury, which he suffered in circumstances similar to Ijalana’s. The coach also confirmed that Edds is
unlikely to return to action with or without Colts this season.
It was rather unfortunate start of the season for the young players, definitely dampening the prospects of their career growth in the professional league.
They have hardly played a full pro season and are made to wait for the entire year to have another chance. Ijalana’s situation is particularly fragile, as the player has suffered the ACL injuries too often too soon.
The Colts hope that new signing will compensate for the loss they have met in absence of the rookie. It is going to be first pro stint of Ty Nsekhe and it is yet to be seen how he performs.
