Indianapolis Colts rookie QB Andrew Luck strongly backed for pro career success – NFL News
Indianapolis Colts’ rookie quarterback Andrew Luck is being weighed as the next most successful offence leader of the National Football League (NFL) with a number of analysts likening him to some former and present elite QBs.
Although the player is seen as a direct predecessor of former star of the Indianapolis Colts and present QB of the Denver Broncos Peyton Manning and expected to match his performance records if not beat them, some commentators see him having a skill set
similar to Atlanta Falcons’ QB Matt Ryan.
Matt was the third top pick off the 2008 NFL draft and has thrown for 95 touchdowns so far. On the contrary, Andrew is the no. 1 pick off this year’s draft held in April.
Former NFL QB and NFL analyst Kurt Warner has linked the player to Matt. He said:
"Probably a guy I liken him to a little bit is a guy like Matt Ryan. A guy that maybe doesn't have the top-notch physical skills, meaning that great arm. But he's a very timing-oriented quarterback and he gets back and sets his feet, he's very accurate,
can make all the throws across the field."
He added:
"And so, coming in, I'm not sure I expect him to wow us so much as I expect him statistically to be a good player. He's very much like a Matt Ryan."
The Indianapolis Colts, who are coming off the 2-14 2011 NFL season performance, have set great expectations from the first year of Luck. The QB too realises the pressure of the expectations and above all the demands of the pro conditions.
Still, some commentators have warned both the team and other stakeholders to not expect too much out of the rookie during his first year.
They pinpointed that it took Peyton Manning six years to win his first postseason game and even though he is the only four-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the league he, too, had taken quite some time to ease into the pro environment.
Luck has officially been made available to the Colts squad following his signing to a four-year deal. He is going to be a regular part of the side from the training camp opening later this month.
