Indianapolis Colts say evaluation continues and coach Jim Caldwell may be next to go – NFL News
Who is next in the line of firing is the question that might be bothering Indianapolis Colts coach Jim Caldwell since breaking of the news that the Colts vice chairman Bill Polian was let go by the owner Jim Irsay on Monday
Irsay could be seen too quick to go for a reshuffling in the management of the Colts given that only a day passed from the regular season of the National Football League (NFL).
Sooner or later, the move however was foreseen inevitable given the performance that the Colts gave in the season 2011, with only two wins and 14 losses in the total 16 games they played.
It was the owner’s choice of targeting Polian to be the team’s first official to become target of the reshuffling that baffled many observers, and even to the Indianapolis Colts team members.
Most of the figures were seen being pointed out at Colts coach Jim Caldwell becoming first prey to the postseason shake-up drive.
This may even well surprise him that he was not the first one to go but the Colts vocal vice chairman Bill Polian. Polian was fired by Irsay who said the change was necessary in the rebuilding process of his outfit.
Irsay however ruled out that it was the only and final decision while confirming in the same breath that their coach Caldwell was under evaluation. He could be next to go but nothing is final yet.
It was one of the worst seasons for the Colts under Jim Caldwell and he had been under fire from very first game of the season.
The coach’s performance was further exposed by the absence of Colts star quarterback Peyton Manning who did not play a single game this season due to neck injury.
It was the only season that he had not started for the Colts and it was the only season that his side has not managed a win until their 14th game of the season.
The Colts finishing of the season was similar to their start, both ending on the losing note. Their loss in the last game against the Jacksonville Jaguars refreshed the pressure on the coach and he was predicted to go in the postseason rebuilding drive.
Despite all fears Caldwell still hangs on to his job but according to Irsay’s statement of his evaluation he may well be preparing for departure. He has remained silent so far.
