Indianapolis Colts seek to focus hiring for other positions after done with Andrew Luck-NFL News
Indianapolis Colts’ new general manager, Ryan Grigson, has admitted that the draft issue was on his mind all the time, resulting in lack of focus on some of other situations i.e. hiring for other positions, in the team.
Now since the team has settled down with their choice to choose Stanford College’s quarterback, Andrew Luck, as their next QB, at the place vacated by the departure of former star, Peyton Manning, he said, the management can focus on some of other pending
matters.
Until very recently, Colts were reported to be in a fix on the decision who will be their next quarterback, Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III, another top notch draft QB from Baylor College.
With their top draft QB’s ratings, respectively, the matter of choice had become rather difficult for Colts and to some extent annoying as well, but following recent confirmation from the franchise’s owner, Jim Irsay, that Luck would be their new QB, all
the uncertainty and confusion around the issue has settled down.
Colts’ GM admitted the issue was taking on their nerve and prevented them from paying attention to some other matters of almost the same importance and urgency.
He said of the forthcoming 2012 NFL draft, due from April 26 to 28, 2012:
"I kind of wish it was today. Every day I wake up thinking about the draft. This is fun. What a great opportunity and great job. To help build a team is a dream."
It is pertinent to recall here that Colts have parted ways with a majority of players, who had worked under their former coach, Jim Caldwell. To fill in their shoes, the management needs to hire fresh talent.
The matter of the draft QB signing is just a beginning to their long-term hiring firing drive, which is essential to build the squad up to its potential strength.
Apparently, the manager is said to be aware of the situation and to some extent has been weighing options for all other positions.
The GM said:
"You never want to pass on a really good football player. You usually know the guys you like pretty quickly. You want guys who know how to play the game first and foremost."
As he noted, they will be able to concentrate hundred percent on those positions once they are done with the hiring of the new QB during the draft.
