Indianapolis Colts seek to replace sacked general manager Chris Polian, begin interviewing – NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts are seeking to replace their ousted general manager Chris Polian and their owner Jim Irsay has sent requests to many teams for interviewing officials as their potential candidates for the GM slot.
Chris was sacked by Irsay along with his father Bill Polian, the Colts vice chairman, two days ago and the team management has finally spoken about their hunt for a new candidate at the Chris place.
No one has been tipped to lead the search as their potential candidate yet. However, quite a few names including the name of Baltimore Ravens’ executive personnel department Eric De Costa are seen holding the prospects.
Few reports have also hinted at the director player personnel Indianapolis Colts Tom Telesco as a likely possibility for switch over to take the GM position.
Nothing has been confirmed by the Colts owner Irsay but reports have indicated that he has sent requests different teams seeking permission to interview their officials for the position.
Irsay is seen in full control of the team affairs since ending of the regular National Football League (NFL) season and has already started hiring firing process.
In addition to releasing Polians from their respective duties he has let go special teams coach Ray Rychleski the next day. He has defended his decision of sacking the officials saying it was a part of the rebuilding that his team needed in certain departments.
Jim has also confirmed his plans to have a meeting with the injured quarterback Peyton Manning within a week to discuss his future. The meeting will determine the future course for both sides, he said.
Manning did not play a single game for the Colts in past regular season and Jim Irsay is determined to know his chances for return before clearing their way for induction of the top draft pick next season.
However, a final decision on Peyton Manning is expected not before April next year, as the contractual terms reportedly do not permit the team to release the player before end of the league.
The absence of the quarterback and resultant collapse of the Colts has already cost jobs of three officials.
Bill Polian in an interview had admitted that it was their failure to find and groom a Peyton’s backup that let down the team and cost almost whole season. The Colts ended the NFL season 2011 with only two wins while their losses were 14.
