Indianapolis Colts seeks Reggie Wayne go places at receivers positions – NFL news
The Indianapolis Colts have posed complete confidence into wide receiver Reggie Wayne’s placement at multiple receivers' positions saying since the team are not a wide right or left focused offence they can make the receiver’s best use at all those positions.
Practically, Reggie made a display of his skills during practice on Thursday, running in between all the spots catching passes from his favourite quarterback Andrew Luck. Apparently thrilled with the excitement of working with Luck, which the receiver has
often spoken of, he looked upbeat and in most cases successful in the arrangement.
Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians has expressed confidence into the receiver’s abilities. He said:
"Why leave him in one spot?'' We're not a right and left wide receiver offense. He's going to be our flanker and our slot. He's got great decision making and he's really strong in the slot. It's a waste of talent to just have him out (left) all the time
and let him be double covered."
Although it is difficult to speculate the success of the scheme in the regular season, at this time this may also improve the team’s receiver’s situation, which otherwise lacks strength and potential to perform.
It is to see how Colts perform against the Pittsburgh Steelers in a road game this weekend and if the arrangement of placing Reggie everywhere works out as planned it should be a good development for the team as well as for quarterback Andrew Luck.
Luck who is rated to be a high-quality quarterback was not pleased with the team’s receivers’ situation. Colts lack talent, and also experience. Reggie is the only experienced receiver in the team but it was difficult for them to have receivers of the same
talent and skills at other positions.
Some commentators see the scheme putting a lot more pressure on one receiver. They say the team is on the risk of losing more than gaining anything if the player suffers an injury scare.
Reggie himself is upbeat about running around all the places but even if Colts had another player of his calibre, he might not have agreed to take the workload of all positions.
