Indianapolis Colts sign centre Samson Satele after denying renewal to Jeff Saturday’s deal-NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts are back in the news again, going another step forward in their owner, Jim Irsay’s so called rebuilding campaign to add centre, Samson Satele, to strengthen their attack-line.
Satele has started in 74 games while representing the Miami Dolphins and Oakland Raiders. Terms of the deal were not made available by the player’s agent or Colts’ management.
Some media reports have claimed that the player has been taken on board by Colts initially on a three-year contract. The total value of the deal is said to be $10.8 million. This includes $5 million as guaranteed money.
Colts’ new general manager, Ryan Grigson, has said that he was pleased over the outcome of their negotiations with the player.
He said:
"We wanted him, and we got him. We couldn't be happier that he will now be a Colt for years to come and help us reach our ultimate goal."
The player is also said to be equally pleased and excited to join the team, which has rebuilt itself to be a brand new outfit, starting everything from the beginning.
Satele said:
"It's a brand new team. In talking with coach (Chuck Pagano) and everyone else, it feels like a family. It's a fresh, new start for me and a fresh, new team. I can't wait to get this rolling."
Meanwhile, centre, Jeff Saturday, who has been released by Colts recently, is reported to have been exploring alternative opportunities off the free agency. So far, he has not found a destination.
Some recent reports have linked Saturday with a planned move to the Denver Broncos to join his former teammate and friend, Peyton Manning, who has joined Broncos on a five-year deal.
Saturday has also visited the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans but nothing has been speculated around his visits and the likely outcome.
Last week, Colts made headlines over the critical release of former quarterback, Peyton Manning. In the next couple of days, they released another half a dozen players.
Since then they have signed a couple of players, including a quarterback for the backup position and now the centre.
The owner called the current phase as the rebuilding process of the team, which ended the last National Football League (NFL) season at the dismal record of 2-14 (two wins 14 losses). The owner has shaken the entire front office and squad to grounds, building
everything from the scratch.
A notable signing that is anxiously awaited is of the Stanford College’s, Andrew Luck, who is a top draft prospect. Colts have earned a first-round draft pick after the poor performance last season.
