Indianapolis Colts sign undrafted QB David Legree to consolidate backup positions strength -NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts have further consolidated their quarterback situation, bringing in an undrafted QB, David Legree, from Hampton, Virginia.
Singing of the 6-foot-4, 225-pound rookie was revealed by Colts on Thursday, May 17, which makes the total number of QBs added to the squad this year to three. This includes the top draft pick, Andrew Luck.
With Luck straight into the starting role, the management has tried to provide him full cover at the backup positions by adding a pair of other rookies to squad.
Terms of Legree’s deal have not been disclosed by any of the relevant stakeholders. This includes the tenure and value of the contract.
Meanwhile, to accommodate the new arrival, Colts announced to have released tight end, Brody Eldridge. He was a fifth-round pick of the 2010 NFL draft.
Eldridge, who was used by the team mainly as a blocker, caught 14 passes for 84 yards during his two-year stint with Colts.
Although the player was rated to be of a sizable talent, he was helpless to come out of the box since the team had made limited and selective use of his skills.
Unfortunately for him, he will not have a chance to play with Luck as his release has come well before the start of the team’s offseason training activities and the regular season.
The move is seen coming as a result of the team’s focus to the receivers’ situation. They have signed Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen in this year’s draft. Both are rated to be better receivers.
Colts have also landed a deal to offensive lineman, Justin Anderson, a seventh-round pick of the team.
He is the fifth draft player that the management has signed so far. Colts have selected 11 players, including Andrew Luck from this year’s draft, held from April 26 to 28.
The management, in the meantime, is working on a contract for Luck, who is out of the side attending his college to finish remaining courses. The team said to be aiming for swift signing of all rookies.
