Indianapolis Colts still interested in Mike Jenkins as Dallas Cowboys refuse trade -NFL News
Indianapolis Colts is persistent about its interest in Dallas Cowboys’ cornerback, Mike Jenkins, even though the latter continues to refuse his trade.
Since the emergence of the player’s demand of being traded, Colts said they would be looking to bring the player to Indianapolis.
Colts management has again reiterated its interest in the player but Cowboys remain firm against the trade.
Cowboys’ head coach, Jason Garrett, has recently gone public about the team’s stance saying "We're not gonna trade him."
Garrett’s statement has come in denial to the player’s request. To press his demand, Jenkins has opted out of organised team activities (OTAs).
Cowboys, in spite of the player’s move of sitting out OTAs in protest, are thinking of the player’s position in a changed cornerback scheme, in which they intend to use four CBs, for the first time.
The management foresees the participation of Jenkins central and crucial to success of the scheme.
On the other hand, it has not been made known by any of the stakeholders whether Colts have approached Cowboys with a request for the player’s trade, formally.
Given that Cowboys have repeatedly stood against the trade option, it is less likely for Colts to have tendered their request before Cowboys officially.
The entire situation is through a stalemate phase at the moment as while the player is out the squad, the team is giving priority to some other issues.
Some commentators foresee this matter lingering until training camp and beyond.
A breakthrough can only be expected if the player is taken on board by Cowboys in their future plans for him.
His participation in the team activities stands crucial and if he continues to opt out of the workout, a solution to the issue is not seen coming in near future.
