Indianapolis Colts target Jaguars game for win without top draft prize worries– NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts who lead the race for the top draft pick next season ruled out on Wednesday if they will give consideration to this opportunity as their top priority in the next and final game of the National Football League (NFL).
Some of their players and team management have come out with a clear message that nothing than a win is acceptable for them and this is what they are playing their next game for.
"We're not going after anything but a win n Jacksonville, look at the last half century of SupBowl winners n c how many had 1st pick," the Colts owner Jim Irsay tweeted on Tuesday.
The Colts are playing their last game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Indianapolis into the Week 17 of the NFL, which is the last week of the current regular season of the NFL before playoff, and their defensive end Robert Mathis said that only thing
on their mind is the win.
"It's better not to respond to that at all," he said while referring to their fans hopes of their team playing for top draft prize. "We play to win."
Having gone down to 0-13 the Colts finally managed to stage a turnaround in the league with a win over the Tennessee Titans into their 14th game.
They went on then to win their second consecutive game by beating the American Football Conference (AFC) south champions the Houston Texans.
Despite celebrating their all of sudden straight two wins, the side started thinking on losing their eligibility for the top draft prize next season, who could be Stanford College’s quarterback Andrew Luck. The player has announced to go pro from next season.
The Colts have not spoken openly for signing Luck yet.
The team apparently came under discussions over their chances for drafting Luck into their side following their win over the Texans. However, they have insisted to playing for a win not for the top draft recruitment.
Again, there are suggestions that the Colts might go into their game against the Jaguars with the top draft player in their mind. A loss will increase their prospects for signing a deal with Luck to induct him as their future quarterback.
However, the team management and players have categorically come out with their ambitions and hopes for a win without being worried about their opportunity for the top draft.
It may be that the team management expects their regular quarterback Peyton Manning coming back to play for them next season, solving their problems at the quarterback position. Manning missed whole 2011 season due to neck injury but might be back in 2012.
Irsay in an earlier statement has said that if Peyton plays football next season it will be with the Colts.
