Indianapolis Colts trade cornerback Kevin Thomas to Philadelphia Eagles – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles have acquired services of cornerback Kevin Thomas and a conditional seventh round pick in the 2013 draft in exchange of linebackers Greg Lloyd and Moise Fokou to Indianapolis Colts. The deal was finalised on Thursday, August 02, 2012.
Eagles’ general manager Howie Roseman looked very excited about having a prospect like Thomas. He said:
"This is a big corner that can run and he was with the (Indianapolis) Colts last year and he played some. He started some games for them and has played some cover two. We think he can go press and is instinctive. We scouted him at USC and he'll come compete
with our other corners and add competition to that spot."
It is the perfect trade as far as the conditional seventh round pick is concerned since both Lloyd and Fokou were the Eagles’ seventh round picks.
Thomas was drafted by Indianapolis Colts in the third round (94th overall pick) in the 2010 draft. He had to spend his entire rookie season on the injured reserve due to a knee injury.
He was able to play nine games last season, during which he scored 33 tackles and three knockdowns.
Thomas looked very happy joining Eagles. He had his first practice with Eagles on Friday and looked calm and composed.
Eagles play a lot more physical game than Colts, so Thomas has to adapt to the change. Yet, he does not seem to be worried about it. Thomas said:
"I've been playing bump and run since I started playing football. Only in Indianapolis -- played a little Cover-2 there -- but for the most part I would say my best attribute is definitely press coverage."
After the addition of Thomas, Eagles now have great depth at cornerback. They have experienced players like Nnamdi Asomugha, Joselio Hanson and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.
Linebacker Fokou played 44 games for Eagles. Lloyd, on the other hand, did not play a single game in his rookie season. He was put on the active roster in the last week of the season after spending the rest of the season with the practice squad.
Thomas looks to have another chance of pushing his career forward while playing for Eagles.
