Indianapolis Colts trade deal with Philadelphia Eagles for CB D.J. Johnson awaits physical – NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts have confirmed the trade deal with the Philadelphia Eagles for a cornerback in exchange of a defensive end and the finalisation of the process is awaiting clearance of physical for both sides.
The players who are the subjects of the deal are CB D.J. Johnson and DE Ollie Ogbu. Neither of them has much real game experience as most of the time of their brief National Football League (NFL) careers is spent on the practice squads of different teams.
A local newspaper reported the deal was reached on past Saturday but apparently both sides are yet to sign the final agreement. The report has not thrown light on any agreement between the parties and the only information available so far is restricted to
the fact that both sides are awaiting clearance of physical.
No schedule has been set or reported for the physical but it can be expected any time in the near future as both players are likely to join the respective teams at training camps.
With the camps due to open later this week, both of them will have to be under contract to be eligible for the teams’ rosters.
Irrespective of the delay in the signing of the final deal, both the cornerback and DE are once again on the prospects of joining the teams for practice squads. There is again a big question mark if they will be able to make it to the teams’ post-training
rosters, which will have to be brought down from 93 players to 53-man squad.
Under the league rules, all teams are allowed to have as many as 93 players on their rosters up to training camp but just before entering the regular season the strength is cut down to 53-man roster.
Johnson’s pro league stint is limited to only 10 games, which he played for the New York Giants in 2009-2010. He started his career with the Denver Broncos after being selected as an undrafted free agent out of Jackson State in 2009.
He has also spent time on the practice squads of the Washington Redskins, Minnesota Vikings and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is with the Philadelphia Eagles until official announcement of the deal.
Ogbu, on the other hand, has spent time on the practice squad of the Indianapolis Colts.
