Indianapolis Colts training camp starts in Anderson from July 29 – NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts are heading to Anderson University for third consecutive year for the full training camp to start on July 29.
All players are asked to report to the camp a day earlier, on July 28, while regular training and workout activities will start the next day.
Colts will utilise the university facilities – the Kardatzke Wellness Centre/Macholtz Stadium complex – for the training purpose into third straight year.
Earlier, some reports claimed the management had mulled deserting the complex and relocate the camp to some other place but they have stuck to use the stadium for training.
This is second time in their franchise history that Colts have returned to Anderson to use the university facilities for workout purpose. They have done so earlier at launch of the team in 1984 to 1998.
It is going to be the first-ever training camp for a majority of Colts’ team members, players and officials alike. The camp will be supervised by Chuck Pagano, who has arrived in Indianapolis as the new head coach this year.
Other bright spot of the camp will be rookie quarterback, Andrew Luck. He is selected as the top draft pick in first round of the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft held in April.
At the moment, the QB is not confirmed for the camp because of the NFL rules, which require all rookies to be under contract before hitting the full training camp.
Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, has said they are closer to give Andrew a deal but recently some reports claimed there is a deadlock in negotiations due to some differences on endorsements terms.
There is a great optimism the team will lock in Luck well before the camp.
In addition to the coach and QB, almost the entire group of front office staff and assistant coaches are into first year of their stint with the team.
So, opening of the camp next month is set mark beginning of a new era for Colts. The team has already moved quite far away from Peyton Manning’s legacy. The veteran has joined the Denver Broncos after continuously playing for Irsay’s side
since 1998 and leaving it 2012.
The camp will close on August 17.
