Indianapolis Motor Speedway repaved in time for Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix – MotoGP news
MotoGP riders will enjoy the newly paved Indianapolis Motor Speedway during their visit at the venue for the 12th round on the event calendar, the Red Bull Indianapolis GP.
The IMS underwent a cosmetic change and the process was completed ahead of the event leaving enough time for the organisers to test the road course for GP riders.
American MotoGP star Ben Spies of Yamaha Factory Racing said, “It's always great when the track is investing and making the surface better for the riders. I'm much happier that it's been repaved, and I'm very much appreciative of Indy doing that. It will
make it a little more consistent for us riders.”
The MotoGP riders will experience the new asphalt surface on August 28, 2011. The infield section has been prepared with high perfection and has been tested by International Motorcycle Federation (FIM). The work and its quality were appreciated by the FIM.
FIM Road Racing Commission President, Claude Danis said, “It looks very, very good. I see a very big improvement compared to years before. The track is fast, and the grip looks good. I'm very happy with the work they did.”
The constructors have repaved 1.5 miles length of the track which consists of an infield road course. The section starts from turn five spanning throughout to turn 16. The present surface was shipped off to lay a new layer of the fresh asphalt. The process
was done to keep the surface consistent according to the rest of the tack.
The turn 5 is a narrow slope exit which lies in between turn 1 and 2 of the oval track layout. The turn 16 is the corner where the track leaves the infield section to enter the front straight. The front stretch is at the exiting section of the turn 4 of
the oval layout.
The infield section has been repaved for the first time since its first construction in 2000. The road course of the IMS oval was mapped for the first time in 2008 for the debut of the Red Bull Indianapolis GP. Even at that time, the track’s section was
not paved for its first MotoGP race.
