Indianapolis has Super Bowl as reason to celebrate: Will they get another chance? – NFL feature
The Indianapolis have a reason to celebrate this week: they are hosts to the National Football League (NFL) championship between the New England Patriots and New York Giants on Sunday, January 05, 2012.
It is a historical day for the city. It is for the first time that they are playing hosts of any event of Super Bowl stature, let alone the Super Bowl itself.
The top boss of the league has praised the city’s readiness to successful organizing of the event.
The city administration has proactively made arrangements to cater the needs of spectators, tourists, players and officials of the teams featuring the championship.
There are separate arrangements for vehicular traffic and tourists, and spectators have incentives and royalties perks to come in to watch the game and move around the city for sights seeing conveniently.
So, it is obvious that the city has all the required arrangements in place to qualify as host of the event.
It might not be like the Olympics that once the most prestigious athletic showoff is over the facilities become redundant.
The Indianapolis did not have to make any such arrangements. There is also a question if the city is able to maintain its infrastructure and win another chance in the future.
As a matter of fact, there are no mega projects such as a purpose built stadium that will become useless after the game.
The arrangements are more of administrative and festivities related that do not require the infrastructural investments and hassles.
So, they can be readily placed in at any time the event of this nature is organised in the future. The city will diffidently look to tap another opportunity.
The city administration and local people have proved that they are not behind other cities of the US in their hospitability and friendly nature.
They have also expressed desire to play hosts again in the future.
The question is; will they be able to win another chance? No one has an answer to it. Not even the NFL commissioner himself. The chief who was all admiring over the arrangements by the Indianapolis refrained from commenting on such a possibility. It is a
fifty-fifty chance.
The Indianapolis can make their case on basis of successfully organising the event for the first time to be given another opportunity.
While, the NFL has many other options on their hand. Other cities are well in contentions for organizing such an event.
A number of them has in fact not host once, and are desperate for a chance. So amid all these and other issues, it is unlikely that the Indianapolis will have a second chance to host Super Bowl in the near future.
Again, since the possibility has not been denied or confirmed by the NFL commissioner, it could prove otherwise and they can win back the hosting rights once again.
In any case, the present run to the event has proved to be the most glorifying time period for the locals.
The Indianapolis are especially happy to claim the event’s rights given that their own team, Colts, are coming out of one their miserable runs of the league.
They could manage only two wins in the season. All of their officials who have been a part of the city for many years are no more there to share their excitement and enthusiasm of being the hosts.
So, by and large, they have the event as reason to celebrate something around the league.
