Indianapolis stand united in backing QB Peyton Manning playing again for Colts – NFL News
The Indianapolis stand united and firm on one thing and that is to see their star quarterback, Peyton Manning, playing for their team, Colts, for more seasons to come.
A large number of fans cheered for Peyton Manning, who was in the city to see the game of his younger brother, Eli Manning, the QB at New York Giants, and they echoed their frustration over the lingering delay in the confirmation of the player’s second coming
to the town.
Many of them are closer to realisation of the fact that the QB might not be there anymore and have apparently blamed Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, of being responsible of the situation around the increasing improbability of Manning’s stay at the Indianapolis.
"It would be incredibly sad to see him go and I'd hate to be Irsay. I want him to stay," said Keith Harden, a 51-year-old Indy. "No, I don't think it's hurt his (Manning's) image. I think he's fighting to stay, and I like that."
The concerns of the local football community and the player’s fans come after an earlier reassurance from the owner that he was committed to seeking an answer to the QB’s future question without hinting at the likely outcome of the expected talks between
the two sometimes in the near future.
In spite of Irsay’s claim of being on good terms with the player, a large number of people around Peyton, including his fans, are increasingly becoming concerned about his future and apparently evident departure from the Indianapolis.
Irrespective to the claims of good relationship between the two, the QB’s agent, Tom Condon, has called the situation not very good at the moment. He has also spoken of the likelihood of Manning being separated from Colts, bringing an end to his long association
with the team.
"Jimmy and Peyton have had a strong relationship for a really long time," Condon said. "They've been great friends besides the business relationship. But this is a tough time, there is potential that you could be separated from a team he's been a part of
for a long time."
A meeting between Irsay and Peyton is expected in the near future, as had been disclosed by the owner in the week leading to the Super Bowl event, and the issue of the Peyton’s deal with Colts and bonus payment to him will be dominating the discussions.
Peyton is due an amount of $28 million in bonus by March 08, 2012 and Irsay has to decide to either make the payment and extend the player’s deal validity for four years or otherwise cut him lose from the contractual binding and go free agency, against the
wishes of the majority of the Indianapolis.
