I don't think so that it would be a superpower.India is far behind and growth rate could collapse any time due to any disaster. Population, pollution, global warming are more important. Being a superpower does not sense anything when the world is gonna die.

It could be!  Due to the colonization of India by the British--for 100 yrs??-- most know English.  The general population can adapt to the internet and speak English on the telephone, and work for very little money--many companys out-source their jobs to India.

I think it's a far fetched idea that India will be a super power within 20 years.  Not impossible, but well near it.

Now if we talk about 50 or more years then it's likely that could happen.

Depends what you mean by superpower .. If you mean nuclear they would have to bypass the russian and the U.S.

If you mean financial they have to deal with educating and finding work for a huge population .

I am an NRI but I say India will never become a super power even in 200 years unless it comes out of bribery (third place)population control (second place)and aids (first place);India has got good and intelligent people

but not good politicians.

Thats so far fetched. Get real. Super Power status FYI my friend is not attained. China for example even with its technological advancement is not expected there till 2030 earliest and thats if they sustain and increase their current economic growth.

Super power status incorporates Military Economic and Political strength (on the international platform). India is by no means an economic dwarf but it fails hugely on the other two scores. Its military strength has been drained by its wars with Pakistan and its highly unlikely to grow much in coming years.

Its political strength on the other hand is short changed by lack of Veto power in UN.

so lets get realistic. It will take at least 50 years of blinding economic growth in a Veto India assuming of course Pakistan gets of their back.

-My friend, it takes more than numerical strength, a huge mouth and a few nukes to make a super power.

Very unlikely. Not that Indians are not capable, it is simply because of the politicians. They want India to remain poor forever, especially the communists. Today, communist China have opened up their economy. But Indian communists do not want India to follow the Chinese way. Even 60 years after the independence, no one wants to abolish the reservations, on the contrary they want to increase these reservations. Though Indian middle class have one or two children per family, the poor and uneducated people have any number of children so India's population is increasing. So India has really no hope in spite of the talent that they have.
