India’s second Formula 1 driver Karun Chandhok was a part of the Hispania Racing Team (HRT), a team that was introduced in 2010 alongside the Virgin Racing Team and Lotus. HRT struggled to show it capability in its debut season
in the sport as Lotus was able to secure the best results out of the new 3 teams.
Karun Chandhok as a result, was also unable to score good results in his debut season in the sport but it seems that he is optimistic that he will be able to secure his seat for the 2011 Formula 1 season. The Indian driver is currently
team-less since his 1 year contract with HRT has officially expired.
Karun has been testing for GP2 teams in Abu Dhabi this past weekend as he hopes to learn as much as he can and head into the 2011 season with an advantage over his rivals. Chandhok was unable to compete in most of the races that
took place in the second half of the Formula 1 season as his team was struggling to decide their drivers’ line-up in nearly every race.
“For me, it's a good way to learn another new Formula One circuit ahead of the 2011 Championship and a chance to further knock off the rust. My goal for next year as I've said before is still firmly to be in Formula One and negotiations
for a drive in the 2011 F1 World Championship are progressing in the right way,” said Chandhok.
Chandhok is expected to test for ORT and Coloni teams in Abu Dhabi. Lotus and Force India are yet to confirm their line-ups for 2011 and Chandhok is expecting to come up with a reasonable deal with either of these teams in order
to secure a potential drive for next season.
“So hopefully we'll have a final programme in place before the F1 world shuts for Christmas,” added the Indian driver.
