Infosys mentor N R Naryanamurthy was conferred with the Officer of the Legion of Honour, the highest civilian distinction of the Government of France.

The French honour for Narayanamurthy comes on a day when he was chosen for Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award of the country.

French Minister of Higher Education and Research Valerie Pecresse bestowed the honour to the 'most admired business leader' of India at a glittering function here this evening.

Created in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte, the Legion of Honour is the highest civilian distinction that can be conferred in France regardless of the social status or the nationality of the recipients.

Pecresse acknowledged the humble beginnings of Infosys, which was co-founded by Narayanamurthy in 1981 along with six friends and 215 dollars in the pocket.

  1. If you have to explain all that detail about what you are talking about, do Indians really celebrate it or even know what it is? I am all for taking any opportunity to party, but....

    Just curious?

  2. The legion of honour can also be a military distinction, not only a civilian one. Regarding Mr Naryanamurthy it was conferred as a civilian one of course.

  3. you are right Narayanamurthy did the best thing for indian populace.  He set up an industry which generates employment and that results in qualified people getting employment in our own country and he also thought it fit not only to create wealth but share it with the society.....what a grand idea and he has actually implemented it...he deserves everything that came his way and the best part  is that he is so simple...not pompous and show off... there is lot for everyone to learn from his life.....I salute him for everything he did for the country.

  4. Indian greats like Satyajit Ray, Ravi Shankar, Amitabh Bachchan besides several other notable names in different spheres have been past winners of the Legion of Honor. I don't remember much celebration over their winning this French distinction. Murthy doesn't need new credentials to establish himself. He is already well renowned for his work and Infosys. All the same this is another feather in his cap, another distinction from a foreign country.

Talking of celebrations, why don't we celebrate Taslima Nasreen's winning the Simone de Beauvoir Award for her fearless feminist writings?

  5. I Thought the only true Indian was Geronimo,,,A red indian  from the planet earth.

  6. Its a matter of honour that they're treating Murthy as one of their own. Its even greater that he recognises that hes put INDIA on the map and not just HIMSELF. Murthy makes me proud to be Indian among many other reasons.

  7. Do you think that the citizens of India will admire the achievement of Mr Narayana Murthy.

    Celebration ?

    Indians celebrate  religious festivals.

    Educational institutions and Government offices

celebrate Independence & Republic days .

    Sometimes people remember Mahatma Gandhi.

His birth day is known as Gandhi Jayanthi.

Otherwise I don't think there is no celebration

by the people of India for any one.  His staff also

    are included.   Very ungrateful people.
