Indians looking forward to welcome wasps of tourists as CW Games draw close
There is a real sense of excitement in India, as the biggest sporting event in the country in the last two decades unveils in 48 hours.
The leading athletes in the country are set to get their game rolling and deliver a bagful of medals for their nation in the coming two weeks or so.
With two more days to go for the Commonwealth Games to unveil, Indian sportspersons expressed their confidence on winning medals in the biggest sporting event the country has ever held.
While interacting with media persons outside the Games village in New Delhi, renowned boxer Akhil Kumar holder of the prestigious Arjun Award said that they were all set for the games.
"There will be no pressure and we feel good when things are expected from us. All of us are ready and have trained really well. Vijender is in full form and others like Suranjay, Jaibhagwan, Dinesh all ten of us are in complete form and fully ready," said
Akhil Kumar, Indian boxer.
Vijender Singh, Indian boxer who is a Bronze medallist in Olympic and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award holder -India's highest sporting honour expressed his expectations from the competing countries.
"Every team is good, like England, Canada, Australia; the African countries can also surprise us. So it will depend on how will they play and what is their state of the mind in the ring," said Vijender Singh, ace Indian boxer.
Meanwhile, V K Malhotra, Vice Chairman of Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, also the chief of Archery Federation of India said that he wishes this mega event is a great success despite his critical and adverse appraisal of the preparations for the
games.
Speaking to media persons at the Games Village, he expressed his disappointment with the decision to let Prince Charles formally declare the games open.
"The opening of the games should be done by the Indian President, and not Prince Charles. We have written to the Prime Minister in this regard, and we hope that he will look into the matter as anything, which happens in the country, the President is of the
highest post, so her post in the protocol should go down. We have told this to the Prime Minister," said Malhotra.
Apart from 10,000 athletes from 71 teams representing 54 Commonwealth member states, India is expecting huge inflow of spectators and tourists during this mega event.
The 2010 Commonwealth Games will be held from 3rd to 14th of October in the Indian capital city, New Delhi.
Hoteliers in India's northern Dharamsala city are making arrangements to lure tourists during the Commonwealth Games with special packages, officials said on Thursday (September 30).
"Being a Buddhist town, we are expecting more tourists as well as more participants. They would like to meet His Holiness at Dharamsala and this place is famous for this Buddhist destination, we have introduced in our package also." said Ajay Thakur, deputy
general manager of northern Himachal Pradesh state tourism.
Hoteliers said tourists visiting Dharamsala, seat of the Tibetan-Government-in-exile, will be charged $ 61.70 per person for two days accommodation including food.
Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama fled Tibet in 1959 after a failed uprising against the Chinese rule. He has lived in Dharamsala since then, a hill town in northern India.
