Indian media praises the successful accomplishment of Commonwealth Games
The newspapers all across the county of India lavished praise on the multi-discipline Commonwealth Games on Friday as they highlighted a dazzling closing ceremony and record medals haul of the home team.
The eleven-day competition that was initially plagued by a couple of mishaps and incidents, and it finally concluded on Thursday.
One of the leading English newspapers in India quoted the headline as, "Mission Accomplished 101%,” while throwing light on the closing ceremony and the success of the overall event that started from 3rd October in New Delhi.
"After the spellbinding opening ceremony and a stirring surge in the medals tally, the mood in New Delhi was expectedly upbeat," the paper read.
India won a total of one hundred and one medals in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi with the recent one grabbed by the Indian Badminton player Saina Nehwal in the women’s singles final on Thursday.
Another newspaper while focusing on the event stated, "Saffron, White, Green, Gold: Colours of Success.” A total of thirty eight gold medals were won by the Indian athletes during the competition.
Majority of the newspapers were filled with pictures of the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games that featured Bollywood hits, fireworks and laser shows in two and a half hours on Thursday. Sushil Kumar, who won a gold medal in the Commonwealth Games
wrestling event in New Delhi was awarded as the 'Most Popular' athlete of the Games Village. He was selected through a competition conducted by Games tabloid 'Village News' based on a survey of players including that of foreign delegates.
A Hindi newspaper from India while talking about the closing ceremony of the biggest sporting event ever hosted in India thanked New Delhi for two weeks of excitement and thrill in the world of sport.
A lot of questions were raised regarding the security concerns as well as the accommodation of the athlete’s village in New Delhi prior to the start of the event due to which a great variety of players also cancelled their trips to India. However, as the
competition went on smoothly, another newspaper from India appreciated the security arrangement of the organizing committee in New Delhi that ensured a smooth ending.

The Organizers prior to the start of the Commonwealth Games had been criticized badly in the lead up to the October 3-14 event, with complaints regarding the unhygienic conditions as well in the athlete village along with the risk of dengue fever virus and
venue safety issues.
The Times of India in its Friday’s edition gave a hint that once the euphoria over the closing ceremony subsides, the process of audit should begin. Those who were responsible for the mismanagement should not be left unquestioned and they should be punished.
New Delhi looked outstandingly amazing and stunning last night during the closing ceremony, despite of fierce criticism from various circles.
An Indian tennis player, Mahesh Bhupati while commenting on the success of the Commonwealth Games said that the Indian athletes had saved the competition.
"Finally hats off to all Indian sportspersons, who saved the Games and made all Indians feel proud every time they stood up to listen to the strains of the national anthem," the player said.
