Indians thrashed in first ODI by mighty South Africa
South Africa completed a comprehensive win in the first One Day International against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 by 135 runs, and now leads the 5 match series 1-0. The visitors were outplayed in all departments of the game as Proteas made full use of the bouncy track at Durban
and used the short pitch strategy to knock the Indians over.
South Africa after winning the toss decided to bat first and managed 289 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 50 overs, AB Devilliers and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JP-Duminy-c1742 were the major contributors in the South African innings. In reply, the Indians never got to grips
with the high bounce and were all out for just 154 runs in the 36th over. Lonwabo Tsotsobe took 4 wickets for the home side.
South African captain Graeme Smith won an important toss and elected to bat first, knowing that dew would play a part later in the night. Hashim Amla and Graeme Smith came out to bat for the home side and it didn't take too long for the Indians to claim
their first wicket as Smith was caught off the bowling of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashish-Nehra-c46293 for 11 runs.
Next man in was youngster Colin Ingram. He hung around for a while but did not score many runs. Meanwhile, Amla on the other end continued to play some brilliant strokes. He was striking the ball with purpose as he hit boundaries all over the ground. However,
on the other end Ingram was caught off the bowling of Munaf Patel; he scored just 5 runs from 23 balls. Amla followed soon after for a well made 50 off 36 balls, the prolific opener hit 8 fours.
South Africa, at 82 for 3, were looking for a solid stand in the middle order and they didn't have to wait too long for it. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887 and JP Duminy got together in the 13th over and started to build the innings. The left and right handed
pair took a cautious approach at first, however, they did not let any lose balls go by and made full use of the power-play. The two added 131 runs for the 4th wicket before de Villiers was caught off the bowling of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ishant-Sharma-c64566, after scoring 76
runs with 7 fours and a six. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Johan-Botha-c67173 then gave good support to Duminy and as the final over approached both started using the long handle. Duminy was dismissed for
73 runs but surprisingly he hit just one four and one six. Wayne Parnell did well in the end to get 21 runs and South Africa ended the innings at 289 for the loss of 9 wickets.
The Indian reply did not begin ideally; http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Murali-Vijay-c78035 was dismissed in the very first over. The right hander got a ball that dipped in and he was out LBW, plum in front of the stumps for 1. The next wicket though was the big one, Sachin Tendulkar, while feeling
the pressure of a big total, moved across his stumps to flick one but edged the ball high off Tsotsobe for just 7 runs.
At 13 for 2 India were up against it, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Virat-Kohli-c95424 was the only man able to stand on one end while wickets kept tumbling from the other. Rohit Sharma was in next and he started to shape up a decent partnership with Kohli, but a bad decision saw him given
caught behind when the replays showed that the bat had clearly clipped his pad instead of the ball. After his departure, Yuvraj Singh came and left quickly as well; the left hander was unable to cope with the bouncy track and was caught in the slips.
Captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni-c73820 also found it difficult to deal with the short ball, however, he was dismissed rather unfortunately when Parnell got his hand to a straight drive form Kohli and the ball was deflected on to the stumps. After Dhoni’s dismissal
it was pretty much over for India and the whole team folded for 154, handing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 a big win by 135 runs. Left arm bowler Lonwabo Tsotsobe was given the man of the match award for his 4 wickets.
