India’s Aditya Mehta aiming to hit 2012 World Snooker Championship
Emerging India sensation, Aditya Mehta will be heading to the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield to take part in the qualifying session of the 2012 World Snooker Championship. The Indian potter is aiming to clinch all his qualifiers and make his way into
the Crucible Theatre to play in the World Snooker Championship against top guns of the snooker world.
Playing at the Crucible Theatre in the World Snooker Championship is a dream for every potter in the world and Mehta is also determined to qualify for the initial round of the most prestigious tournament of the sport. Mehta is currently placed in the first
round of World Championship qualifiers against the Welshman, Andrew Pagett.
Speaking to the Indian media about his ambition, Mehta said, “It's going to be very difficult to make it in the Top 64 and qualify for the championship. The qualifiers are a best of 19 frames and the matches will be a battle of stamina and patience, but
I'll give it my best shot.”
The Indian National Champion added, “I've won a lot of events, but the Bombay Gymkhana title has been elusive. I hope I can win it this time. I want to bring back Indian snooker's glory days. I hope to surpass Yasin's record and make him proud.”
Mehta’s performance in the current snooker season has been a bit lower because he was not able to win any major or minor snooker tournament. He made his way into the advance stages of the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Event 9 at the Lotto Arena
in Antwerp, Belgium. The Indian hit the quarter-final spot against England’s Martin Gould but lost to him 4-1.
In most of the major ranking events in the current snooker season, Mehta has been crashing out of the qualifying sessions. In the qualifiers of 2012 China Open snooker tournament, he clinched two matches against Passakorn Suwannawat by 5-4 and Scotland’s
Anthony McGill by the score line of 5-3.
The World Number 85 could have grabbed the third match against Alan McManus but failed to improvise according to the situation and lost the game 5-3. The 26-year-old will be moving to London soon to play in the qualifiers of 2012 World Snooker Championship.
