India’s Aditya Mehta ousts Jimmy White to advance in 2012 Wuxi Classic qualifiers – Snooker Update
Third round of the 2012 Wuxi Classic, which is now a major ranking snooker event, finished successfully at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield featuring 16 rookies who cruised into the fourth round. The atmosphere at the academy was magical with the new
faces who earned a place in the professional circuit for the next two seasons.
India’s Aditya Mehta was one of these faces who booked his place in the pro tour after winning the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) 2012 Asian Snooker Championship.
The Indian potter set up his third round qualifier clash against the former six-time World Snooker Championship finalist, the legendary Jimmy White. The Indian potter played impressively against the veteran potter and was able to defeat him by the score
line of 5-1.
Mehta started off the match with a classic break of 47 in the opening round of the match to get 1-0 lead and put early pressure on his opponent. The Whirlwind dominated in the second frame and grabbed a strong lead but Mehta bounced back brilliantly and
claimed the second round victory to extend his lead to 2-0.
The third frame was Mehta-show as he cruised into the frame win after potting a stunning clearance of 85 points to move one frame up at 3-0. White felt a lot of pressure but he still managed to click a set win to add one frame to his side of the score board
at 3-1.
However, the Englishman was unable to do more in this regard because Mehta stole the show in the next two frames. After the interval session, Mehta fired two impressive breaks of 30 and 67 to grab the fourth frame victory. Sixth frame of the match proved
to be the last one as Mehta swept the table in no time to claim the match win.
Speaking to the local media, he said, “I am very thrilled about the win today as Jimmy is a tough opponent. This is my second time in the 4th round of a Pro ranking event. I need one more to qualify for the final stages in China.”
He performed impressively in the opening round of the 2012 Wuxi Classic qualifying session and defeated the 2012 World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) entrant, Sam Baird by the score line of 5-3 followed by a superb win over Thailand’s James Wattana
by 5-1.
