India’s Ajay Jayaram and Anand Pawar enter in the second round of Swiss Open GP Gold 2011
India’s Ajay Jayaram and Anand Pawar entered the second round by winning their first round matches of men’s singles in the Swiss Open GP Gold 2011, being played at Basel, Switzerland, on Tuesday, March 15. Ajay took 46 minutes to chuck out Keigo Sonoda of
Japan in a three-set match, whereas Anand defeated Eetu Heino of Finland in straight sets by, taking just 30 minutes.
Ajay started the game in a classy fashion as he established a good lead of 11-8 against Sonoda. After the one-minute rest, the Japanese played well and levelled the score at 17-17. The Indian played some wonderful strokes in the end of the opening set and
won it by a narrow margin of 21-19, in 18 minutes.
In the second game, the Japanese became very aggressive as he played a more attacking game this time. He remained ahead of the Indian throughout the set and finished it up by a huge margin of 21-10, in just 15.
In the third and final set of the match, Ajay remained quick from the start of the game and took a good lead of 11-5 in the opening half of the game. After the 60-second break, the Indian remained on track and won the set with a huge margin of 21-10, by
spending just 13 minutes on court. The concluding score of the match was 21-19, 10-21 and 21-10.
In another match, Anand crushed Eetu in straight sets by playing wonderful badminton. In the opening game, the Indian occupied the driving seat from the start and built a good lead of 11-6. After the interval, he continued his winning run against the Fin
and won the set by a good margin of 21-14, in just 16 minutes.
Anand maintained the pace of the game in the second game and took a comfortable lead of 11-5 at the end of the opening half of the set. After the 60-second rest, the Indian remained aggressive and spared no chance for the opponent to fight back in the match.
The final score of the 30-minute match was, 21-14 and 21-11.
In the second round, Ajay will be up against Yuhan Tan of Belgium, whereas Anand will take on the fifth seed Wan Ho Shon of Korea.
