India’s Ajay Jayaram and Anand Pawar move forward in the German Open GP Gold at Mulheim
India’s Ajay Jayaram and Anand Pawar grabbed their first round matches of the men’s singles in the German Open GP Gold 2011, at Mulheim, Germany on the 2nd of March.
Anand defeated the Russian shuttler, Ivan Sozonov in a straight set fight of 33 minutes, whereas, Ajay emerged the winner in a three set thrilling match against Daren Liew of Malaysia. In the second round of the event, Anand will take on China’s Zhengming
Wang, and Ajay will be facing Keigo Sonoda of Japan.
India’s aggressive shuttler, Anand, played well in his first round match against the Russian, Sozonov. The opening set of the match remained tight as the score progressed with equal pace from both players. The score was 14-14 when Anand started to play an
attacking game with strong pushes and deep smashes that earned him 3 points in a row. He remained on track and won the first game by a good margin of 21-18.
In the second set, Anand was leading the set by a 11-7 margin. After the break, both players remained toe-to-toe till the half of the second part of the game. In the ending points, it was the Indian player who scored the remaining points and won the game
by a decent difference of 21-17.
The final score of this 33-minute-long match was 21-18 and 21-17.  In the second round, Anand Pawar will be fighting against the Chinese player, Zhengming Wang, who defeated Rune Ulsing of Denmark, in the opening round.
In another match of men’s singles, Ajay Jayaram, won a thrilling 55-minute-long battle against the talented Malaysian player, Daren Liew, in three sets. The Malaysian remained smooth in the opening set and eventually won it by a 21-15 margin. In the second
set, Ajay bounced back in the match by winning the game with a 21-18 score on the board.
Right from the start of the second set, the Indian started to build speed to handle the powerful strokes of the opponent, and remained successful in leveling the match by 1-1.
In the third and final set of the match, both shuttlers demonstrated skills of the highest class. It was a wonderful game which was full of hard smashes, tumbling net shots, strong pushes, net killings and incredible defensive strokes from both sides.
The score was 15-15, where the Indian played some stunning down the line smashes that earned him a considerable lead of three points. He maintained the lead at the crucial stage of the set and finished it up by a 21-18 difference. The final score was 15-21,
21-18 and 21-18.
In the second round of the German Open GP Gold 2011, Ajay will be in action against the Japanese shuttler, Keigo Sonoda, who thrashed the English player, Carl Baxter in the previous round.
