India’s Ajay Jayaram hungry to touch greater heights at international level – Badminton news
India’s impressive shuttler, Ajay Jayaram is hungry to touch greater heights at international level after delivering terrific performances at the 2011 BWF World Championships and the 2011 Vietnam Open Grand Prix.
Jayaram has occupied Number 29 position in the Men’s Singles world rankings after playing top-class badminton in back-to-back international events. At the World Championships in London, the Indian delivered a stunning performance and reached at the top-16
stage in the Men’s Singles draw of the event.
In last week’s Vietnam Open, Jayaram entered into the semi-final of the tournament proving that his performance at the World Championships was not a fluke. In the semi-final of Vietnam Open, the Indian was up against Japan’s top shuttler, Sho Sasaki, who
is currently ranked at World Number 9 spot.
The Japanese has been playing tremendous badminton for the last six months and was expected to crush Jayaram in the semi-final battle. However, the Indian displayed a stunning performance against the Japanese throughout the match but failed to finish off
the ending points and lost the match in well fought three games.
Jayaram said, “My confidence has really boosted by recent brilliant performances. Few people expected me to reach pre-quarterfinals in London and last four in Vietnam but I was confident about good show as I trained hard for the last few months.”
While talking about his quarter-final fight against Sasaki in the Vietnam Open, Jayaram added, “While playing in Vietnam I suffered injury because of which I lost a close semifinal against World No. 9 Sho Sasaki of Japan in three games. After the scan today,
the X-rays revealed there is a muscle tear in my abdomen. Doctor has advised me to take compete rest for few days.”
Now, the Indian is expected to grab Number 25 position in the world rankings on Thursday, September 1, when the Badminton World Federation (BWF) reveals the new positions.
Currently, Parupalli Kashyap is the highest ranked Indian Men’s Singles player in the world, who is placed at Number 23. Jayaram, on the other hand, has set a target of getting into the top-15 before next year’s Olympic Games.
