India’s Ashwini Ponnappa and Jwala Gutta confident to continue their good form – Badminton News
India’s Women’s Doubles top seeds, Ashwini Ponnappa and Jwala Gutta, are confident to continue their impressive performance which they delivered in the Sudirman Cup 2011, in Qingdao, China, last week.
Ashwini and Jwala have been demonstrating really good performances for the last one year. The duo is currently placed at the 22nd position in the Women’s Doubles world rankings, conducted by the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
Both females are completely satisfied with their partnership, which is producing good results. The pair is ranked at the top in India, as they have no parallel in the rest of the national squad in the Women’s Doubles category.
Jwala said, “We are enjoying the partnership and hope to look forward. The chemistry is really working as we complement each other on the court remarkably well and no wonder we are ranked World No.22 in women's doubles now.”
While talking about the performance of the Indian shuttlers in the Sudirman Cup, Jwala added, “The fact that India reached the quarter-final in Sudirman Cup for the first time after 25 years should itself be a reminder of the potential we have in all departments.”
Ashwini said confidently that the pair will win many titles in the upcoming events by playing at their full potential. She is optimistic that the duo will continue to become one of the major contenders in all important international events.
While talking about the suspension of the skirt rule, Jwala said the BWF has taken a right step as it was making many females shuttlers quite uncomfortable to play by wearing skirts. She added that the players should not be forced to wear skirts if they
do not want to.
Ashwini and Jwala are making a remarkable progress at the world stage as they have defeated some top pairs on different occasions. Their consistent performance in the last few tournaments has boosted their confidence.
If things proceed in similar fashion, then the chances are quite high that Ashwini and Jwala will produce impressive results in the upcoming Super Series events, before the World Badminton Championships 2011.
