India’s P. V. Sindhu topples Neha Pandit to become Women’s Singles national champion
India’s P. V. Sindhu, who is in smashing form at the moment, has stamped her supremacy in the country as she has become the Women’s Singles national champion by winning the final match of 76th Senior National Badminton Championships 2012.
In the final contest, Sindhu thrashed her team-mate, Neha Pandit, and grabbed the title in an emphatic fashion on Wednesday, January 25, in Bangalore, India.
Sindhu, who has been placed at number 30 in Women’s Singles world standings, displayed her incredible skills and toppled her rival to bag the title after finishing title match in straight games by consuming only 29 minutes of court time.
On the other hand, Neha, who has been playing flawless badminton in all round matches in the tournament, failed to continue her winning streak against Sindhu and lost the final match in straight games without impressing the crowd.
Sindhu started her campaign in the title match with a positive approach as she did not spare any chance for her opponent in the opening half of first set and established a wonderful lead.
Neha could not match the speed of her challenger in the first half and also remained struggling in taking the bird early. She tried to dictate the pace but failed to execute her strokes in targeted area of her rival’s court.
However, Sindhu played composed game and did not face any problem in maintaining her strong position in the first set. She remained positive and won the set with an incredible 21-9 score on the board.
In the following game, Neha started the game in a positive way and also matched the speed of her challenger. She remained close to Sindhu in the opening few rallies of second set but failed to take a comfortable lead.
In the meanwhile, Sindhu started to accelerate her speed and put pressure on Neha. She remained on track and continued playing fast badminton. Sindhu’s positive and planned play helped her to win the second set with a remarkable difference of 21-14.
Sindhu won this Women’s Singles title match of National Championships in a striking fashion with a 21-9 and 21-14 score on the board.
