Former Indian shuttler, Prakash Padukone, who is regarded as a badminton legend in the country, will meet Indonesia’s Rudy Hartono, another great player, in Mumbai, India, on
Monday, June 6.
Prakash, a former All England Open champion, has been inspiring numerous shuttlers in India to become world-class players. He used to idealise Rudy Hartono as his favourite shuttler
during his young age. Now, the Indian has got the opportunity to meet the Indonesia in India.
Rudy is generally regarded as one of the best players to have ever embraced the game of badminton. He clinched eight titles in the All England Open Championship, which is considered
as the most prestigious event in the world of badminton.
While talking about the great Indonesian player, Prakash said that Rudy is a very respectable figure for him, as he has always been a great fan of his game. The Indian will meet
Rudy after eight years and is excited about the meeting.
Prakash said, “He has always been my idol and I've always tried to model my game after him.”
The Maharashtra Badminton Association and the National Sports Club have invited Rudy to visit India, where the Indonesian will conduct a coaching camp. Only a few selected shuttlers
will participate in these training sessions under the supervision of Rudy.
While talking about his past experience of playing against the Indonesian, Prakash said, “I remember playing in an invitational tournament against him where I was beaten heavily
in the first round itself. I remember admiring his game a lot and it will be good to meet him.”
The Indonesian is sure to help Indian shuttlers and organisers in learning many important and different aspects of the game. For the players, Rudy’s advice will be very important
as he was the best shuttler in his time of youth, whereas, for the organisers, he will be working with them on many things which will help the local bodies to function in various ways, which will be important in the promotion of the game.
