India’s Pullela Gopichand is no more the coach of Women’s Singles ace Saina Nehwal: Badminton News
India’s current national coach and former All England Champion, Pullela Gopichand, is no more the coach of the Women’s Singles ace shuttler, Saina Nehwal, as the player is currently working under the supervision of Bhaskar Babu.
Saina is considered as the most committed and hard-working player in India, who never indulged in any controversy as she focuses herself on badminton only. She left training under the supervision of Gopichand two months ago, without revealing any major reason
and started to train with Bhaskar for the preparation of the 2011 World Badminton Championships and the 2012 London Olympics.
Gopichand said that Saina is mature player and knows very well about what she is doing. It is not a big issue at all as she has many responsibilities to fulfil and Saina needs full attention at this stage of her career.
“Listen she still trains at my Hyderabad Academy. The difference is that there is a separate coach. As national coach I have to devote my time to all players and she is a player with special needs so I don’t see why Bhaskar training her is a big issue,”
Gopichand said.
Saina agreed with the statement of Gopichand that she needs a separate coach. She further said, “There is no issue. Gopi sir is national coach and he needs to be with the younger players and the senior players so I needed a full-time coach and that is why
Bhaskar sir is training with me. I don’t see why this issue is being blown out of proportions.”
However, Saina is playing at the academy of Gopichand, but under the supervision of a new coach. Gopichand took his step back and avoided giving any irresponsible statement about this issue. He knows that any controversy, at this crucial time when World
Championship is just three months away, will harm the preparation of the shuttler, who will be among the major contenders for the title in the mega event. The World Championship is set to take place at Wembley Indoor Arena in London, England, from August 8
to 14.
