India’s Saina Nehwal confident to make her mark at the 2011 Badminton World Championships
India’s Women’s Singles top shuttler, Saina Nehwal, is quite confident to put up a great show at the upcoming 2011 Badminton World Championships, which are set to begin from Monday, August 8, in London, England.
Saina Nehwal, who is currently placed at Number Six in the world ranking of Women’s Singles, has been struggling this year as she could manage to win only one event in the form of 2011 Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold.
However, India’s top seed has regained her confidence by doing well in the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series and is now busy in training sessions. She is well prepared at the moment and is ready to shine at the World Championships, which is the most important
event after the Olympic Games.
Saina suffered from an ankle injury a few months back, but the shuttler has managed to recover and is injury free at the moment. She grabbed many titles last year but failed to continue her impressive run in the current year. However, she is quite confident
to deliver her best in the world meet, where she will face some of the world’s best shuttlers.
India’s national coach, Pullela Gopichand, is satisfied with Saina’s preparation for the World Championships. However, the coach knows the importance of the playing conditions at the hall where the event is going to take place. He also put stress on the
game of her challengers and over the fact that it is very important for players to read the game of their rivals.
He said, “It is important to see what are the opponents trying to do and prepare her accordingly especially because the world championship is at the same venue as the London Olympics. So it is important to see what conditions will be there.”
As this event will also give players precious points for the 2012 London Olympics, Saina, along with this tournament is focusing to perform well in all international events. She said, “Right now I am focussed on playing as many international tournaments
and win few of them to get my confidence and also to get into the rhythm.”
Saina’s main opponents at the World Championships will be shuttlers from China. However, the Indian has defeated them on different occasions in the past and is determined to play her best badminton in the event.
