India’s Saina Nehwal resumes training under the patronage of Pullela Gopichand – Badminton News
India’s Saina Nehwal, who is the country’s most celebrated shuttler in the Women’s Singles category, has resumed her training under the patronage of national coach, Pullela Gopichand.
Nehwal is currently ranked at the Number Four spot in the Women’s Singles world rankings, conducted by the Badminton World Federation (BWF). Saina had earlier stopped to train under the supervision of Gopichand due to some misunderstandings. For this period
of few months, she has been training under the supervision of Bhaskar Babu.
However, it seems that all issues between the shuttler and the coach have been resolved, as Nehwal has started to work again with Gopichand. While talking about the issues between her and Gopichand, Saina said, “What happened between Gopi Sir and me is a
thing of the past. I have resumed training under him.”
Gopichand also said that everything is fine now and he is optimistic that things will go in a normal manner in future.
Saina’s father, Harvir Singh, also wanted Saina to train under Gopichand. Harvir said, “Look all I can tell you now is that we are all happy with the way things have worked out.”
Nehwal is set to participate in three major events in the month of June. Gopichand will travel with her, which will enhance the confidence level of the shuttler. Nehwal will participate in the Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold 2011, which will take place in
Thailand from June 7-12.
After the Thailand Open, she will participate in the Singapore Super Series 2011, starting from June 14 in Singapore. Her last tournament in this month will be the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series, which will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia, from June
21-26.
Nehwal is the top seed in the Thailand Open, whereas, the Indian will be the defending champion in the Women’s Singles category in the Singapore and Indonesia Open. The shuttler is expected to get good results, as her mentor will be there to support her
in a series of tournaments which will surely test the player’s stamina and temperament for the game.
