India’s Saina Nehwal working hard to perform well in the Singapore Open Super Series 2011
India’s Saina Nehwal is working hard to deliver a good performance in the upcoming event of Singapore Open Super Series 2011, starting at Singapore City, from Tuesday, June 14.
The Indian is the defending champion in the event, as she clinched the Women’s Singles title in the Singapore Open Super Series in 2010. However, it will be an uphill task for the Indian to defend her title in Singapore this time, as top Chinese shuttlers
will also be present to fight for the crown.
The 21-year-old Saina, lost to Xuerui Li of China in the Women’s Singles quarter-final of the Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold 2011, last week. She was the top seed in the event, but failed to play at her best to win the title.
The Indian, who is currently the World Number Four in the Women’s Singles world rankings, is working hard to improve different aspects of her game and restore form in the Singapore Open. The event is one of the twelve super series events organised by the
Badminton World Federation.
Saina said, “I am really working on my strokes, little bit more on my movement, so that I move faster against them. Because (at any point should) you move slower or you take it easy, you will lose the match. So I need to be very quick on the courts, so I
am working on that speed and a lot of my strokes.”
Saina clinched many titles in the Super Series events in 2010. However, she has grabbed only one crown in the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold 2011, this year. In the home event of the India Open Super Series, she lost her match in the first round.
In the Singapore Open, Saina will take on China’s Lu Lan, who is currently the World Number 24 spot holder. The Indian previously ousted the Chinese shuttler in the first round of last week’s Thailand Open. Saina is expected to cross the initial hurdles
and face the World Number One and top seed of the event, Wang Shixian of China.
