India’s World Cup squad well-balanced: Krishnamachari Srikkanth

The selection committee met in Chennai on Monday to announce the squad. The meeting was attended by the Indian captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Kirsten-c58527 participated via teleconference from South Africa.

Srikkanth, who was also part of the triumphant http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 side that lifted World Cup trophy in 1983, said that many things were considered while trimming the 30-man preliminary squad. He also said that the main focus of the panel was to select
a World Cup winning squad.
“We had a thorough discussion on what will the best combination that could win us the World Cup,” said the chairman BCCI selection committee while talking to the media reporters after the selection committee meeting.
“Various considerations were taken into account: the wicket condition, the opposition we are playing... Taking all this into account, I think we have selected a very well-balanced team,” opined Srikkanth.
The chief selector was also hopeful that the batting line-up that has been picked for the quadrennial tournament has the potential to fire when it starts the World Cup campaign against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in Dhaka on 19 February, 2011.
“I am confident that with the kind of balance that we have, the kind of batting line-up that we have, that this Indian team... will do the job for us,” said the former opening batsman.
