India’s ace golfer Shiv Kapur pulls out of the inaugural Panasonic Open – Golf News
In a surprise move, India’s ace golfer and a formidable contender Shiv Kapur, has pulled out of the inaugural Panasonic Open scheduled to start at the Delhi Golf Club today. Kapur cited a hectic routine being the reason which caused him to take some rest
having just returned from Trophée Hassan II in Morocco where he finished third.
"I always enjoy playing in Asia as the conditions are closer to home so this mini-break will help me quickly recharge my batteries as we approach the summer.” He said, “I have played really well in the last two tournaments in New Delhi (Indian Open and Avantha
Masters) so it is a shame to miss out. I do feel this will help me to further improve my game in the next couple of tournaments," Kapur added.
This is the first time the Asian Tour is coming to the DGC and Kapur being one of the most notable golfers of India, was expected to offer some splendid sport on his home course. His withdrawal will certainly be a big disappointment for his fans that have
eagerly followed his globe-trotting from European Tours all the way to Africa. Kapur has regularly played on the European Tours, barely ever missing any and finished for the third place in last year’s Indian Open. Critics also claim that Kapur, a graduate
from Purdue University who has played mostly on the US Amateur circuit in the beginning of his career, often takes the home championships for granted. Although Kapur has repeatedly claimed that he loves playing at home.
"The last couple of weeks have been good but absolutely draining at the same time. I am disappointed to say that I will not be able to participate in the Panasonic Open in my home town New Delhi but I feel this is the only option I have with a tough summer
ahead," he said.
Kapur turned professional in 2004 after winning the Indian and Malaysian Amateur Opens in 2000. He went ahead to win the Volvo Masters of Asia in 2005, finishing fourth on the Asian Tour Order of the Merit. He joined the European Tour in 2007.
