Indian shuttlers are ready to prove their worth against players from China, Indonesia and Malaysia, as the Indians have improved their game incredibly in the recent past. With their performance in the 2011 Badminton Asia Junior Championships, the Indian
players proved that they are now ready to put up a strong show against shuttlers from top badminton nations.
At the Asian Junior Championships, India achieved tremendous results particularly in the Boy’s Singles category, where three Indians reached to the top-8 stage, which was more than any other country. The three quarter-finalists from India were Sameer Verma,
K Srikanth and Pratul Joshi. Sameer was successful in securing a podium berth, as he reached in the Boy’s Singles final of the championship.
In the Girl’s Singles category, India’s PV Sindhu delivered a remarkable performance as she reached the semi-final stage of the Championship, proving that she is also on the right track to catch up with top shuttlers at the international stage.
While talking about the performance of Indian junior shuttlers, Pullela Gopichand, the national coach of India said, “I think it is very, very promising. If you look at the results, out of the eight quarter finalists, there were three Indians, more than
any other country. Overall, in the team championship we got a bronze which is for the first time. This augurs well for badminton in the country.”
Gopichand said that junior players are working well and they need to participate in more and more events, which will help them grow better and perform well at the international level.
The coach appreciated the effort of youngsters and said, “The facilities have improved and the junior players have shown the urgency. We require more competition and facilities. This will give a competitive edge to the game.”
Indian shuttler, juniors and seniors, are working really hard to prove their worth in important events. The tremendous performances of junior players in last week’s Asian Junior event proved that they are more skilled now, which indicates that the future
of Indian badminton is prosperous.
