It has been raining a lot this summer in England and the game between Somerset against the visitors was also affected by rain. Both teams lost quite a lot of time on the second day, as rain came pouring down at Taunton.
Although both teams would have liked a complete game, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 would have been slightly happier with the rain, as it saved the match for them. The team had a miserable outing with both bat and ball, but rain helped them draw the match comfortably in the end.
Somerset didn’t impose the follow-on on the visitors and decided to build their lead over the Men in Blue. They declared the innings at 260 for the loss of two wickets, gaining an overall lead of 461 runs in the match.
The main reason for the hosts to come out and bat was to give some more batting practice to the England’s Test match captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
However, this game against the Indians proved to be a good one for Strauss, as he collected plenty of runs in both his outings. He was the top scorer for his side in the second innings with an unbeaten 109 runs.
There was not much concern for the batsmen throughout the match, as the pitch remained hard and dry. This allowed the hosts to pile huge totals in the match, pressurising the number one team in Tests.
Strauss and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arul-Suppiah-c1084 had given a century opening stand to their side in the first innings and repeated the same in their second outing. They collected 131 runs this time around before the latter was dismissed after scoring 45 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Hildreth-c1647 was unable to make an impression in the innings, as he was sent back to the pavilion without troubling the scorers. However, there was no other success for the visitors’ bowlers after the fall of two wickets.
Strauss and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Trego-c2181 put together 129 runs for the third wicket partnership, guiding the team’s total to 260 before the declaration was made. They remained unbeaten on 109 and 85 respectively.
India’s leg-spinner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Mishra-c871 was the lone wicket-taker for his team in the second innings, dismissing two batsmen.
There was very little time left in the match after the Somerset innings and India survived the remaining overs without any dramas. Openers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abhinav-Mukund-c41758 remained unbeaten on 36 and 33 respectively before the play was called off by the
umpires.
