India’s tour of South Africa: Jacques Kallis and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887 smash the Indians to post a huge total
The Indians came into their tour of South Africa confident to continue their winning streak, but the first three days of the first Test of the series have brought delight only to the faces of the South Africans. A strong Indian
side was knocked out for 136 runs in their first innings, and today the response from Jacques Kallis and AB de Villiers alone was outstanding.
De Villiers put up a marvellous batting display that resembled an ODI knock more than a Test match innings. His 129 runs off 112 deliveries reminded the Indians that the South Africans also possess a Sehwag. He scored his century
in less than two hours, off 75 balls – the fastest Test hundred by a South African. Thanks to him, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757’s lead touched 225 runs before lunch.
And then along came Kallis, who went on to make his maiden Test double-century. By the time South African captain Graeme Smith decided to declare (soon after de Villiers fell to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ishant-Sharma-c64566) Kallis had made an unbeaten 201 runs
and was applauded by both pavilions for his outstanding performance.
India, ranked the number one Test team in the world, found it difficult to make up for their failed batting display with an effective bowling attack. Sharma got the breakthrough wicket of Hashim Amla this morning, more a gift from
Amla than anything else. But de Villiers picked up from where Amla left, hammering the bowlers to all parts of the park. His onslaught led the South Africans across the 500-run and they went on to make 620 runs.
When a weary http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gautam-Gambhir-c58623 both scored half-centuries and by the end of the day India were 190-2. However, the visitors still trail by 294 runs.
