The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the Indian team will be playing a series of 5 One-Day Internationals, and one T20I during their upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, scheduled to commence in late July this year.
The original plan proposed by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) included a short Test series in addition to the limited-overs fixtures. However, the BCCI has been unable to find a slot for the extended-overs series, owing to the Indian team’s hectic schedule in the
upcoming months. The Indian board also refused to allow its players to participate in the Sri Lanka Premier League, citing a cramped itinerary as one of the reasons behind the decision.
The 5-match ODI series will kick off on July 22 at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Sooriyawewa, Hambantota, and the series will be followed by an only T20I.
“These matches will be ideal for the Indian team, especially, at a time when the World T20 is around the corner in Sri Lanka itself,” a BCCI official said.
The Indian team is then due to return in order to host http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792 from August 23 to 27, while the second will take place at the M Chinnaswamy
Stadium in Bangalore from August 31 to September 4.
Their next assignment is the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in September, and the Men In Blue have been touted as favourites for the title, after having won the ICC World Cup last year in March.
The team’s schedule offers them only a month of respite, as the world T20 tournament will be followed by a comprehensive series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013. The Poms’ tour of India includes a 4-match Test series, 2 T20s, and 5 ODIs – the tour will begin on November
15 and end on January 27, 2013. In addition, the BCCI and the Pakistan Cricket Board are also in talks to fit a short series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 into the middle of the matches against England.
