Indigenous Team?

I would like to see an AFL indigenous team in the AFL

I don't think that the head honchos would be in favour as a team of entirely indigenous players would win the finals every year.

  1. Why single out the indigenous players?

    I find this question discriminatory.

As much as indigenous players have the same rights to play in the AFL as non indigenous people, making an "all indigenous" team is discriminatory against white people.'

Would we then have to take the indigenous players out of our other teams?

This would open up a huge can of worms that could only start trouble.

Maybe we could start a team of only blue eyed players, another of only brown eyed, then even a team of redheads, blondes, brunettes, tall, short !!

I completely disagree with you, just my opinion.

  2. Doubtful they would win every year.

Sure there is plenty of great indigenous players, but not enough to make a whole team that would win ALL the time.

Besides, it's racist against white men. No one would be able to have a team of only white men now would they?

  3. Why would you like to see an indigenous team in the AFL ?

I thought this was the age of integration and diversity.

And why would they win the finals every year ? for starters there could be a bit of a problem searching for a ruckman.

Are you aboriginal ? or just stirring up a bit of unrest.

  4. I have EXACTLY the same view as you, Chequer. The AFL can get away with not putting a NT team in Darwin (due to the low population), but it has NO excuse whatsoever not making one of these 2 new AFL sides an Indigenous one. There are more than enough talented young Aboriginal players in this country that could make up a full Australian Rules side that would be more than capable of playing at AFL level.

An Indigenous AFL team would easily happen if the AFL actually wanted it to. Just look at the Tiwi Bombers, sure they may be in the Darwin competition, but they're an all-Aboriginal professional footy team.

  5. its a bit racist towards whites dont you think, if we had only a white team with no italians, greeks, ugo's etc, the world would go berserk, it would be good to see a team of their skill together more often but it ain't gunna happen man.

  6. If they did they could base it in the Northern Territory but I don't think it is a good idea because it is kind of like segregation.

Your right about them winning everything though.

  7. There have been all white teams in the AFL for a while.

All Aboriginal teams have been around for some time and there has been talk on and off regarding teams from Melville Island and other communities playing in 'All Star' games.

Many AFL clubs have a history of some of the nastiest racist supporters (Remember Nicky Winmar baring his chest!) and Aboriginal players have come out shining in spite of it.

And with todays quality of players and the next generation of players making the grade, an all Aboriginal AFL team would without a doubt take the flag every year.

  8. I don't see it happening in the regular season. Although there could be a game similar to the NBL's (basketball) Australia vs the World, featuring the best Australian born players vs the best non-Australian born players in the NBL.

With names like Andrew McLeod, Buddy Franklin, Adam Goodes, Daniel Wells and the Burgouyne bros it could be a very good side.

  9. So does that mean when draft time comes around only the Indigenous team can draft the young Aborigine kids, would this not constitute a restriction of trade and be classed as racist from outside observers.
