Indios Chapaleufu II edge past Estancia Grande Sancor Seguros 18-17 in Tortugas Open Championship
After an exciting contest, the team of Indios Chapaleufu II has emerged victorious over recently-formed Estancia Grande Sancor Seguros 18-17 in their first match of the Tortugas Country Club Open Championship, the first leg of the Triple Crown held at the
Tortugas Country Club in Argentina on September 28, 2011.
Though the team of Estancia Grande Sancor Seguros was looking a bit tarnished including their mares, they managed to make a comeback in the later part of the game and gave a tough time to Indios Chapaleufu II in the seven-chukka competition. As per the previous
track record, Chapaleufu II usually opens every season including Tortugas, Argentina Open Polo Championship and Grand Prix Audi.
However, in the recent match, they edged past newly-organised Estancia Grande by a single goal, 18-17. It was a match filled with a tremendous amount of action including fouls, goals and missed attempts. In the high scoring match, some 35 goals were scored
in the seven frames.
No less than 50 fouls were made by the two teams of which more than ten were the technical mistakes. Another amazing fact is that some 20 out of 35 goals were scored through corners and penalty conversions. From the beginning, it was looking that Chapa II
will win the game easily. However, the situation changed and the rivals posed a serious threat in the later part of the game.
Marcos de Paola was replaced with Mexican Julio Arellano and displayed an impressive performance at the start of the competition. Alejandro Novillo Astrada, the former player of La Aguada was at his best in the game. However, he left the field after the
four chukkas due to injury. Ignatius du Plessis, the player from South Africa was replaced with Astrada in the remaining three frames.
After the first chukka the score was 6-1, as the team of Estancia Grande failed to show their worth on both the offence and defence. However, they enhanced their speed in the second period and scored two more. The two sides entered into the third chukka
with Chapa II sitting ahead with a five-goal edge.
The game moved ahead with fouls and interruptions side-by-side that was making the game more interesting. After the five chukkas, Estancia Grande succeeded to hold the game as the score was 12-11.
Both teams were continually hurling deadly shots on each other and making additions into the scoring. Eduardo Heguy scored off many penalty shots and the score was 17-13 with one frame left to play. The action continued from the two teams as both exchanged
plenty of strikes in the seven minutes. However, it was Chapaleufu II that managed to win the game 18-17.
